Why the vial weighs more than the peptide

Why size matters here

Counterion mass is roughly fixed per basic site, but peptide mass is not. On a 712-dalton molecule carrying two or three trifluoroacetate counterions at about 114 daltons each, the salt is a substantial share of what gets weighed into the vial.

A 5 mg vial of perfectly pure ipamorelin as a TFA salt can hold under 3.5 mg of actual peptide. Nobody has cheated. That is what the salt weighs.

Which is why content is reported separately

A purity figure will not reveal this, because purity compares the target peptide against other peptide-related material and is blind to salt and water entirely. Only a separate content measurement answers the question you are actually asking.

  2. Purity — measured at the quantifying transition, with the method named on the report.
  3. Net peptide content — quantified against an external calibration curve and reported as its own figure, in milligrams. Why this is a different number from purity.
  4. Peak data — the chromatographic results behind each figure, printed on the certificate rather than held back.
